Reformer vs. Lagree: What's Actually Different (And Which One's For You)
Share
If you've searched "reformer vs lagree," you've probably landed on ten different answers. Here's the short version: Lagree is technically a style of reformer workout, not a separate machine, but the vibe, the pace, and the burn are different enough that they've become two distinct things in most people's minds.
Let's break down what's actually different.
Reformer Pilates
Classic reformer work is rooted in the original Joseph Pilates method. Movements are controlled, precise, and focused on alignment, breath, and core connection. Sessions tend to move at a steadier pace, with a mix of spring resistance levels depending on the exercise. It's intense, but the intensity builds through control, not speed.
Reformer is a great fit if you want a strong mind-body connection, are working on posture or rehab-adjacent goals, or you like a workout that feels more meditative than grinding.
Lagree
Lagree was developed by Sebastien Lagree and uses a similar (though often adapted) machine, but the class structure is built around slow, controlled reps held under constant tension, called "time under tension." There's little to no rest between exercises, and the pace rarely lets up for the full 40 to 50 minutes.
Lagree is a great fit if you want a higher heart rate, love feeling like you left everything on the machine, and don't mind your legs shaking by minute 20.
So which one's right for you
Honestly, a lot of our members do both. Reformer on days they want to slow down and reconnect, Lagree on days they want to sweat it out. Neither is "better," they're just built for different moods and goals.

What actually matters more than the machine
Here's the thing neither format solves on its own: showing up. The workout only works if you keep coming back, and that's a lot easier when you've got people to show up with. That's the whole idea behind Pilates & Lattes Club. Come try a class, meet the girls, stay for the coffee after. š¤
Come solo, we promise you'll leave with new ones. This is open to everyone. š
